Basic Introduction on PID controlled Wood Pellets smoker/Grills
Most of the Pellets grill have fitted with temperature-based controller. It is also important on time-based controller too. If Wifi added, that’s better.
But, what’s the most cased as feature of PID controller. What’s the difference between temperate-based and PID controller?
Let me explain.
Well, temperature-based controller is also time-based which guessed on timed gaps of turning the pellets feed auger motor and combustion fan on and off to achieve the setted temperature. And a temperature-based controller works reasonably well.
But, on temperature-based controller, you should expect the temperature to swing roughly 25 degrees around the set temperature. PID controller, on the other hand, is constantly monitoring the internal grill temperate and comparing it against the set temperate.
A PID controller is then making constant adjustments to the pellet feed auger and fan speed and in some cases can maintain a temperature within 5 degrees of set temperature. Hence, briefly, PID controller holds a much more accurate temperature. In other words, a PID controller is much smarter pellet grill control panel. But of course this is a little expensive than temperature-based controller.
So, what kind of controller do you want for you wood pellets grills and smokers ?
